Anyone think it is safe to plant flowers or will we get another freeze?

The soil hasn't had a chance to warm up yet, and also it will still be too wet. Memorial day is usually the right time.

FlowersBirthday FlowersSympathy FlowersIf you live in the north, I'd wait until after the end of May. If you live in the south, I think it's safe to plant flowers now. I have planted all the flowers that I'm going to plant %26amp; feel that it was safe to do so.





Oh, I see you're in Ohio, but not sure what part, but I'd still wait. (former Ohioan here)
Reply:I would wait... It would be pretty risky to go and plant them now.. At the moment anything could happen.. you never know.. We might have some more snow... Hopefully not though...
Reply:I think it depends on where you live. Everywhere there is a frost free date. In Louisville, KY ours is May 11th. that is the lastest date we have ever had a freeze. Contact a garden center and ask them, they should know.
Reply:That really depends where you live. I know back home {south central texas} the odds of another freeze are VERY unlikely however where I live now {north dakota} its not unheard of to have snow in July! I'd say wait til May to be on the safe side, but if your planting bulbs or seeds go ahead and do it now just because temps drop to freezing doesnt mean the ground will freeze.
Reply:It depends both on where you lie, and what you want to plant. If you're in Ohio, there are still a few weeks left for a freeze or frost to be possible.





However - there are plenty of things you can plant now, regardless. Pansies, for one. Even if it freezes briefly oernight, they bounce right back. You can also put summer-flowering bulbs in the ground now. Canna lillies, Dahlias, delphinium, liatris, there's a huge list of stuff you can plant now. By the time they make a showing above ground, the freeze-possible-period should be past.





Also, if you buy your flowers from a nursery, they can tell you which ones can take frost.puppy teeth
