What can I do to plant flowers?

I live in Alabama %26amp; my yard consists of "Georgia Red Clay". I'd love to have a lily garden but don't know what to do about or how to prepare "the clay". Any tips will be Greatly Appreciated.

Reply:You may want to consider growing your flowers in decorative pots and planters. There are a great many books and websites out on the subject, many apartment dwellers use container gardening on their balconies :)
Reply:Get some topsoil %26amp; Miracle grow.
Reply:Raised beds or soil replacement may be your only quick fixes.

Amending is never a bad idea - but if your soil is mostly clay - don't add sand unless you add TONS of it. Clay and sand in the right proportions will give you concrete. Unless you know what you're doing, stick to adding lots and lots of soil, peat, and other organic matter. Leaves, grass clippings, compost...all that stuff.affiliate
