Unusual flowers around the world?

I am starting to plant various plants in my yard that make flowers.

I live in South Florida.

Along with the usual plants, I have found different and unusual plants such as bamboo orchids and ground orchids. I would like to try other unusual plants.

The ONLY unusual flowering plant I ever read about is the one that produces one flower, smells like rotting meat. Not my idea of a plant for my yard.

Do you know of any other different or unusual flowering plants that normally you would not see, that can live in South Florida? Common name, if possible, so I can see if our local store can get them for me.

Thanks for the help.

Bat plant - Tacca chantrieri

Bird of paradise

Brugmansia

Gloriosa Lily - Gloriosa superba

Jasmine vine - Stephanotis floribunda

Snail flower vine - Phaseolus caracalla

I could probably think of some more... but these are what come to mind. I am in Chicago (zone 5) and am very jealous of you Floridians!
Reply:Bird of Paradise flower, would be fine in Florida. Beautiful, bizarre shaped flower.

Reply:Unfortunately, the kinds of flowers you can plant depend, not on what you want, but on what's available, plus state and federal shipping regulations. For example, you may hear about a certain flower that interests you, but it may well be prohibited as an import. Your local nursery can give you information on that subject better than I can.

Probably the best thing to do is look for uncommon, or exotic, plants that are already allowed and sold here--like Anthurium, which comes from Hawaii, or African Violets. Or there's an ornamental plum tree that has dark red leaves.
Reply:Try Protea. Beautiful large, long lasting flowers. They resemble artichokes, but are very colorful. Rainbow, Ca is famous for their production.skin disease
