Good balcony plants in cold climate?

I am looking for good plants/ flowers to have in pots on my balcony. I live in the DC area so it is cold now (around 55 during the day) but we are having a warm winter. The balcony gets a great deal of sun during the day.

I would like to buy thee or four plants that will nicely fill the space. I am just worried that they will die if gets below freezing. Any ideas?

Thanks

But if they are medium sized, at least two feet square, you might consider planting a small species of evergreen, like a dwarf cedar or juniper. If you water them well, and keep them protected from winds on your balcony, they will provide not only rich green foliage throughtout the winter, but also give you some shade and wind protection in the summer. Also, during the summer months, you can plant some annuals and vines around the base, for colour and variety ! Enjoy!
Reply:i would use pansies because there so b-e-a-u-ti-ful
Reply:This time of year when it's cold people mostly use pansies, ornamental cabbages and kales, snapdragons then replace them with different "anual" palnts in the spring.genealogy mormon
